My life-long career was caring for people, family, friends, patients, and communities as a health care provider and advocate. I have participated in developing care delivery systems and health care programs as an executive nurse.

My second career is managing a horse farm (no, there’s no money in it), extensive gardening (still no money), and community volunteering (nope, nothing there either). The greatest things in my life are my husband, my daughter and the rest of my family.  Being independent is a close runner up.

I love to travel and enjoy nature (yes, I do drink and I eat anything).  My passion has been and is learning.  Other passions are my family and my animals.  With age come clarity and confusion, health as well as limitations, pride along with humility, and a rush to get in as much gusto as possible!

Apple Valley Paso Fino Farm is nestled in the small town of Waverly, MO, about an hour east of Kansas City.  Owned and operated by Gene and Charlene McFadden, they sell registered and DNA-tested Paso Fino horses: homozygous and non-homozygous pintos, blacks and other solid colors.

Apple Valley Paso Finos prides itself on selling fully-maintained horses that have been given superior care. We use a pelleted feed to prevent gobbling. Depending on work level; feed is 11-13% protein and low carbohydrates, so there is less chance for digestive upset.  We have a full-time trainer that works with each horse.

A Paso Fino exibits three different gaits - the classic fino, the paso corto, and the paso largo. Each gait has a different use or speed. The footfall is evenly spaced. The sounding board is often used to hear the rhythm of the footfall.  A gait is the way a horse moves. The Paso Fino in known for it’s natural evenly-spaced four beat gait. All four hooves travel close to the ground and are lifted the same height.
